May Wildlife visit
The wildlife group had a lovely visit to Summer Leys nature reserve at Wollaston. We managed to avoid the rain and even had an occasional glimpse of the sun. Walking around the main lake we heard the sound of a Green Woodpecker saw Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Sedge Warbler as well as Thrush, Robin, Wren and Black Bird. We also saw Oystercatchers, Great Crested Grebe, Little Egret, Tern, Heron, Lapwings ,Redshank, Greylag and Canada geese with their goslings. At the bird feeders we were lucky to see a Bullfinch along with Great Tits , a Blue Tit and Jackdaw. We admired the Spring flowers especially the patches of Ground Ivy and beautiful yellow Cowslips. After lunch a visit to one of the bird hides rewarded us with an exciting aerial display by two Hobbies in a sky full of screeching Black headed gulls and Swifts probably enjoying the numerous mayflies, while on the opposite bank a young fox watched a group of rabbits.
