Music Appreciation(Tuesday) – January 2019

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 Holdenby Close, MH at 10.00am. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 15 January when Peter will present the programme of music. In December’ at our Christmas meeting, members presented music of their own choice. During the morning we heard ‘In Terra Pax’ by  Finzi(1901-1956); the ‘Hansel and Gretel Overture’ by Humperdinck(1854-1921); ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ by Copland(1900-1990); the ‘Concerto in F major Opus 4, No.12’ by Locatelli(1695-1754); ‘The Dance of the Hours’ from the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky(1840-1893); ‘The Shepherds’ Pipe Carol’ by Rutter(b.1945); the ‘Overture to The Marriage of Figaro’ by Mozart(1756-1791); ‘I could have danced all night’ from My Fair Lady(Lerner & Loewe 1956). We finished with ‘The Shepherds’ Farewell’ from the cantata The Childhood of Christ by Berlioz(1803-1869). Partway through this musical feast we enjoyed coffee and mince pies! Thank you all for a great morning of music. We played ourselves out with the Sir David Willcocks arrangement of the Christmas song ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!’
