Music Appreciation (Tuesday) – September

Cole Porter

Cole Porter

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 Holdenby Close, MH, at 10am.  Our next meeting is on

Tuesday 17 September.  The programme of music will be presented by Peter. At the moment this group is

full. In August the programme of music was presented by Colin who is a new member of the Group. In his

introduction, Colin explained how his interest in classical music developed relatively late in life and that

after his retirement he began to go to hear concerts by the Halle Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool

Philharmonic Orchestra, Also he had been inspired by listening to programmes such as Private Passions and

This Classical Life on BBC Radio 3 and going to see performances by the Harborough Collective. So from

this learning experience we were treated to Colin’s eclectic choice of 15 pieces of music which had led him

to his personal appreciation of classical music. Amongst what we listened to was Rhapsody in

Blue (Gershwin); Goldberg Variations(Bach); Mercy(Richter); Time Lapse(Nyman); Prelude No.15 in D Flat

minor(Chopin); I wish I knew how it would feel to be free(Billy Taylor); Gnossienne No.1(Satie); Concerto

for two trumpets(Vivaldi); Sarabande from the Keyboard Suite in D minor(Handel) and I’ve got you under

my skin(Cole Porter). If you are interested we can provide a copy of the full programme. Thanks Colin, a

memorable morning of music.
