Music Appreciation (Tuesday) – March

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 Holdenby Close, MH, at 10am. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 16 March when Peter will present the programme. In February, Amanda chose the programme of music. Appropriate to the sunny morning we began with the ‘Concerto No.1 in E major – Spring’ by Vivaldi(1678-1741). This was followed by the ‘Symphony No.3 in A minor – Scottish’ by Mendelssohn(1809-1847) and then something light before coffee – ‘I am the very model of a modern  major general’ from the Pirates of Penzance by W.S. Gilbert(1836-1911) and Arthur Sullivan(1842-1900). After a break we heard the motet for forty voices ‘Spem in Alium’ by Thomas Tallis(1505-1585) – the choir was The Clerkes of Oxenford. Absolutely beautiful.  We finished the morning with ‘Gaspard de la nuit’ – a suite of  three pieces(Ondine, Le Gibet and Scarbo) for piano by Maurice Ravel(1875-1937). Thanks Amanda – some great music. We have a vacancy for one new member, please contact me if you are interested in joining the group.
