Local History – July meeting

On the afternoon of Tuesday, 18th July, thirty-four members of the Local History group met at the Congregational Church to listen to a fantastic talk given by Douglas Clinton on ‘The Death and Afterlife of Wistan, Saint of Mercia’.  This was a departure from our normal local history subjects, being local history but with a medieval twist.  Wistan died in 849 but was well known in Wistow and Great Glen and the environs.  The talk was very descriptive and informative and given with great passion by Mr Clinton.  We were all enthralled and certainly, by the end of the presentation, well versed in the lives of the various kings, family entanglements and murders of the period before the reformation.  For further information of the Local History group, which meets every third Tuesday afternoon in the month, do please contact me.  Jan Tilley.
I am seeing the year out.  Our last meeting is in November and I may or may not do something December but Ian and Avril are already making plans for 2018.  Their details are as follows:  Ian Webb 01858 440851 (davidiwebb2002@yahoo.co.uk) and Avril Pell 01858 414871 (sadapell@uwclub.net).
