Tuesday, 17th January, saw the first meeting of 2017 of the Local History Group. Thirty-eight of us thoroughly enjoyed a talk given by Bob Hakewill on Market Harborough’s Carpet Industry in the 18th century onward and of the remarkable Clarke family. A lot of this talk was illustrated by some very old photographs of Harborough as it had been. It was all extremely interesting. We were also able to welcome four new members to the Group and look forward to seeing everyone again at next month’s meeting when we shall learn about Social Housing in the East Midlands. This Group meets every third Tuesday afternoon in the month. For further details do please contact me. Jan Tilley.
