A record number of members met to learn about Lost London. Colin Cohen explained how London owes its existence to the Romans in 100 AD, its destruction by Boudicca and its rebirth by the Romans in 200 AD, remains of which can still be seen today. Colin illustrated his talk through the years of growth – the Anglo Saxons, Medieval age, Civil War, Great Fire, stately houses and estates, etc. We viewed old photos of iconic buildings now lost or altered, maps, sketches – altogether a fascinating talk.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 18 February at 2.00 pm, when we will welcome our member Bob Hakewill, who will be speaking to us about the Boat Builders of Market Harborough. Refreshments will be available after the meeting.
