Group Enabler

As summer holidays and outings come to an end and Autumn approaches, many of us are meeting up to enjoy u3a activities indoors as well as out. Although Zoom has been an asset during the past year and a half, nothing beats real social contact with others! Most venues have opened up now and everyone seems to have adapted to any new procedures necessary for keeping safe.

GROUP UPDATES: As you may know, Peter Ellement, who has been a SLu3a Group Leader for many years as well as being involved on the Committee, is moving away from Market Harborough to live closer to family. He will be sorely missed as he has committed much time and effort to our organisation, in particular the All Day Walking group, which he ran with his wife Janet for 15 years, leading walks and organising short breaks, the Architecture group and the Music Appreciation 1 group. I would like to thank Peter for his tremendous input and enthusiasm and wish him and Janet all the best in their new home.

Colin Cohen and Roger Lewin are taking over from Peter as joint Group Leaders of the Music Appreciation 1 group and, as current members who know the ropes, a smooth transition is guaranteed.

An initial meeting is being held at the beginning of October to set up a new French group and further details will be included in the November Newsletter.

Finally, I would like to thank all those Group Leaders and members who helped out at the joint Slu3a/MHu3a stand at the ‘Community and Volunteers Fair’ on 18th September. Your support was most welcome at this successful event which attracted 22 new members on the day, with many more taking Newsletters and fliers. It was a great opportunity to raise the profile of u3a and let local people know about the new Harborough Welland u3a.
