Group Enabler

At last we’re enjoying some sunshine along with a return to more sociable times. With the prospect of restrictions being lifted (all being well) on June 21st, many groups are now contemplating their future and planning for meeting up face to face if possible. To ensure that Group Leaders are ready to start up their groups again with confidence, we ran a Group Leaders’ Workshop on Wednesday 26th May on Zoom to discuss any concerns they might have. This included a variety of topics ranging from booking venues, cleaning costs, handling cash, hybrid meetings to a lively discussion on T-shirts and High-vis jackets! It seems likely that for some time to come, Zoom will remain an option for some groups, perhaps in conjunction with meeting in person. Thank you to all the Group Leaders who attended and contributed their ideas.

Two groups are currently looking for a new Group Leader Bridge (Social) and Singing for Fun. Sue Jones is standing down as Group Leader of Bridge (Social) in August and, as the only Bridge group left in SLu3a, it’s important to keep it going. Ann Tonkin, who has led Singing for Fun for some time, is reluctantly relinquishing her Group Leader role in advance of the group meeting up again. I would like to thank Sue and Ann for all their support and hard work during their time as Group Leaders. Please let me know if you’d like to take on either of these roles; both groups are well-established and we don’t want to lose them!

Unfortunately, our German Improvers group, led by Barbara Evans, has decided to call it a day due to increasingly low numbers and my thanks go to Barbara who has regularly kept in contact with group members over the past year. I am hopeful that we can get a second Birdwatching group underway soon so look out for any updates over the next few weeks.

I’m always looking for new group suggestions so please get in touch if you would like to start one up or need support to do so.
