Group Enabler

With Spring on the horizon, it’s an ideal opportunity for our outdoor groups to make the most of the countryside – mud and floods permitting! With that in mind, two of the new groups being promoted in March are tailor-made for nature lovers.

March New Groups are: Wildlife (details on front page), Walking Cricket, IT Support and Birdwatching.

At present there are 5 names on the Walking Cricket list, but more are needed if this is to be viable. It’s an indoor sport so can be played all year round; if you want to find out more, check it out on and on YouTube. One of our members has offered to provide IT Support to those of us who need a bit of extra help with computers, phones, IPads, etc.; this could be in a small group or on a one-to-one basis. Our existing Birdwatching group currently has a waiting list so there seems to be sufficient interest to start another one up.

If you are interested in any of these groups, please email me and I will register your interest. (There will not be a sign-up sheet at the March meeting)

I’m pleased to report that a second Ukulele group is starting up in May (details on front page). Unfortunately, two groups are no longer running – Men’s Golf and Card Craft 1. I would like to thank Mike Roberts who has been the Golf Group Leader for 20 years and Sheila Taylor, Group Leader of the Card Craft group, for all their hard work.

20th Anniversary Videos/Photos: Thank you to those Group Leaders who have contributed so far. There’s still time for more so please send them to by the end of March.

Photography Group Open Day: The May meeting of the SLU3A Photography Group will be an open session entitled “Photos on a Phone”. This will be held at Welland Place (opposite the station) at 2pm on Friday 15th May. If you want to find out how to take better photos on your phone and what to do with them afterwards, why not book a free place by phoning or texting the Group Leader, Phil Aldridge, on 07734 903737 or email
