Here is the latest news on the new Harborough Welland u3a. Members should have received an email  with this information

Back in the summer members voted on the idea of creating a brand new u3a in Market Harborough and the surrounding area. We are soon to make this a reality. Harborough Welland u3a will come into existence on 4th January 2022, subject to the agreement at forthcoming extraordinary special general meetings (more details below).

A Steering Committee of trustees from MH and SL u3as have been working together to put in place everything that is needed to create a brand new u3a, with a new website, new logo, new newsletter and new constitution. Early in the new year, the first monthly meeting will be held in a new venue, the Methodist church in Northampton Road. This has excellent up to date facilities, including an audio visual system that will enable us to support hybrid meetings for those members that want to join us remotely. In addition to the monthly meeting with speaker on the second Monday of the month, we are delighted to announce that we shall be holding a social meeting on the fourth Monday (at the same venue), with an  open  invitation  extended to all  members to pop in for  refreshments  and  chat  to

others, several group leaders taking the opportunity share what their group does, and, importantly, extend a welcome to new members to join us and find out more about hwu3a.

For this to come to fruition, we first need to dissolve the two existing u3as and transfer their assets to Harborough Welland. This is a legal step and needs your vote of approval. This will take place at EGMs on Zoom on Monday morning, 29th November. We will transfer your membership details to the new u3a, but you will need to pay your subscription at the beginning of the year to ensure membership. Subscriptions for the first year will be £5. These are payable from 4th  January and details on how to do this will be made available nearer the time.

All groups that are active at the moment will be available for members to join in January, but membership will not be automatic. If you have previously enjoyed belonging to a group, you will still need to contact the group leaders to register your interest. If all goes well, we are sure we will soon be able to offer more interest groups. Indeed, if you have an idea for a new group then this is an ideal opportunity to make this happen. Group Leaders will be invited to a workshop early in December to share and discuss the details of how Harborough Welland u3a will operate.

An EGM of hwu3a will be held in early April, prior to the monthly meeting, where members will be invited to step up and elect a new Committee to continue to take this exciting, new u3a forwards.
