Our first virtual AGM! Thank you to everyone who helped make this a success: the 43 participants and the team that helped make this happen – Louise Elsome, Stephen Joy, Dave Martin, Ian Webb and Denise Smith. Three rehearsals paid off and we all know more about the various features of Zoom! Your Committee is now in place and is at the quorum of 7 – see gallery below. Supporting us in voluntary roles and working with designated Committee members are Maryan Richardson, Trips, Colin Ford, Refreshments and Stephen Joy, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster. The second part of the AGM was an excellent talk by Phil Aldridge, Digital Photography Group Leader, with lots of tips on how to take much better photos with your mobile phones. It’s on our website for a month: https://youtu.be/lpIcxTR5unY October’s streamed talk will be by member, Bruce White telling us about his CoVid-19 Walks. I look forward to seeing many of you on screen – we can 100 participants. Behind the scenes, we are planning a virtual meeting with group leaders on 6 November and Committee members will represent SLU3A at the imminent National U3A AGM, as well as the East Midlands Regional Meeting, Leicestershire & Rutland Network of U3A talk in late October. Finally, yes, it is frustrating to know that we have a long winter ahead where most of our activities do not allow us to meet up in person. However, if anyone has any innovative ideas, simple or otherwise, then do, please, get in touch with any Committee member or myself and let’s see if we can make them happen and involve as many SLU3A members as wish to participate: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07837 410 575.
