We may be emerging slowly from lockdown but it has been a busy month for various Committee members. Dave Martin is now in post as Secretary and getting to grips with the workings of SLU3A. Liz Brett has taken over the role as Speaker Coordinator, as Pat Brafield prepares to step down as a Trustee. Liz is also working actively on ways we can attract new members both now and once life returns to ‘normal’. This fits in well with her established role as New Member Liaison, where she contacts all new members within 6 weeks of joining to see if they have any questions. We have also decided to hold a streamed, new members’ coffee morning on Thursday 20th August to welcome those who joined back in February and the 4 who have joined on line during the lockdown (another first for SLU3A!).
We have met with several members of Market Harborough U3A Committee to share Zoom skills and to discuss ways we can continue to work together post lockdown, especially with regard to raising awareness locally of the valuable role of U3As and to recruit potential new members.
I was delighted that 65 computers logged on to our second, streamed monthly meeting in July, making a total of approximately 75 members listening to Bruce White’s talk on Wildlife in the Welland Valley. Let’s hope we can exceed that number in August! On that note, any ideas for keeping in touch, either within groups, or as a member of SLU3A, are always welcome. Just get in touch with myself or any Committee member.
