Who would have believed at our March meeting that our next monthly session would be a virtual one, hosted by Zoom, in June? None of us! However, I should like to thank a small team who have been working hard (remotely) to work out and trial a format for the June meeting, namely Louise Elsome, Stephen Joy, Colin Cohen and Denise Smith. Especial thanks, too, to Colin for enthusiastically taking on the challenge of presenting a talk remotely, where you cannot gauge the audience response. We have included interaction with members, giving you the opportunity to submit questions and to vote for your favourite building design. We hope that many of you join us at 10.30 am on Monday 8 June and apologise in advance if there any minor hiccups! It is planned to include the recorded event on our YouTube account, which you will be able to access soon afterwards via the link on our website. We also intend to run similar meetings over the coming months. In the meantime, keep sending in your items, whatever length, for the newsletters and our website. It is important to retain our sense of community as we gradually ease ourselves out of lockdown.
I would remind you to check out the national U3A website which has some excellent ideas for things to do: https://www.u3a.org.uk/. Sign up, too, for their excellent, electronic, monthly newsletter: https://www.u3a.org.uk/newsletter
Members will recall that on Wednesday 3 June it was to be U3A day and we were planning a combined event with Market Harborough U3A This was to be a 3.5 mile walk around the town. The event has now been postponed to early October. However, I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you and acknowledge all the volunteer work that many SLU3A members undertake; from making the tea within their groups, acting as group leaders to undertaking the role of Committee Trustee, to name but a few. It is only with your support that makes SLU3A the highly successful organisation that it is today and this year is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

There will shortly be be a new Volunteer tab on the national U3A giving updates and the latest news. In the meantime, read about several volunteer success stores: https://www.u3a.org.uk/
