Bird Watching May Report

Still not allowed out in a group I decided we could do a Garden Watch on our bird watching day. Members were asked to spend as little or as much time as they had to record the birds seen or heard in or from their garden, not interested in numbers as such but the number of different species. 10 members took part covering 8 gardens; no surprises really except perhaps no one recorded a House Martin! In total 28 different species were recorded, a little surprising perhaps was that only one bird was seen in all the gardens – Woodpigeon! Here’s the complete results of how many gardens recorded each species.

8 – Woodpigeon

7 – Blackbird

6 – House Sparrow, Bluetit, Robin

5 – Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow

4 – Dunnock, Godfinch, Jackdaw

3 – Collared Dove, Song Thrush, Starling

2 – Coal Tit, Great tit, Rook, Chaffinch

1 – Pheasant, Buzzard, Red kite, Swift, Swallow, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Greenfinch, Bullfinch

Here’s hoping we’ll be able to meet in June, adhering to social distancing rules of course.
