As the weather slowly improved throughout the day at Egleton (Rutland Water) during our last meeting, so did the birding! As is the norm these days, little egrets were everywhere but also three or four great white egrets were in evidence. Waders were scarce but at the last hide we visited in the by-then sunny afternoon, a group of six green sandpipers were lurking at the pool side. The afternoon was notable for the raptors – a buzzard, red kite, marsh harrier and a couple of ospreys were all seen over lagoon 1 and on lagoon 5 we spotted a solitary yellow-legged gull.
