“With an apple I will astonish Paris” – Paul Cézanne.
At our next meeting on Monday 1st July we will look at the life and work of Post – Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne. Born in Aix-en-Provence in 1839 he is best known for his incredibly varied painting style which greatly influenced 20th century abstract art, in particular the works of Picasso and Matisse. He painted many landscapes, portraits and also still life paintings of apples and household objects in which he experimented with perspective. It is still possible to visit Cézanne’s studio in the South of France and many of the objects that he painted in his still lifes are there.
