Architecture – March

78 Derngate

78 Derngate, Northampton. Charles Rennie Mackintosh

We meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2.00pm in the Lounge at the Congregational Church.    Our next meeting is on Tuesday 26 March when Trish will introduce ‘The Work of John Calvin Portman American Neo-futurist Architect’ and Geoff will give a talk about ‘The Contribution of HRH Prince Charles to the Architectural Debate’.  In February Judith talked to us about houses used as places of work and we visited a number of toll booths, lock keepers’ cottages, watermills, windmills, lighthouses, school houses and station houses both local and national. Hilary then took us on a personal journey following her love of Art Nouveau. We travelled between the Glasgow College of Art and Charles Rennie Mackintosh to the Vienna Secession(Union of Austrian Arts) and Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser and Otto Wagner amongst many. A fascinating introduction to Art Nouveau. Our thanks to Judith and Hilary for an interesting afternoon. New members are always very welcome. Membership of the group is £10 a year to cover rental costs of the room we meet in. Please contact me if you are interested in joining the Group.
