Architecture – December

We meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2.00pm in the Lounge at the Congregational Church.  We had a great meeting in November when everyone present thoroughly enjoyed a quiz organised by Colin and Geoff. This year there were 8 teams, named after architectural styles – Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Baroque, Bauhaus, Brutalist, Gothic, Neo Classical, Palladian and Romanesque that battled it out over eight rounds. The Bauhaus team triumphed with 81 points and took home the Cup. The Baroque team succeeded in getting the lowest score and had the pleasure of winning the wooden spoon. Great fun was had by all, there was lots of chatter and lots of laughter, and we look forward to competing again next year. Please note that we do not meet in December. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 28 January 2020, when the group will view recordings of television programmes by the architectural historian Alec Clifton-Taylor. The topics are Bury St Edmunds & Sandwich.  Time will also be given to finalising the programme for 2020.  After nearly fifteen years as leader of the Group I will be handing over this responsibility to Colin Cohen and Geoff. Woods who will be joint leaders. From small beginnings with six or seven members, when we met comfortably in the Bowden Room, we have grown to thirty-eight. I would like to thank everyone who has been a member of the Group for their help, their support, their friendship and for the contribution they have made to our enjoyment of all things Architectural. We have learned a lot, I know I have and it has been fun as well. New members are always very welcome. Please contact me if you are interested in joining the Group.
