Quilty Pleasures

Quilty Pleasures is a thriving and enthusiastic group which meets in beautiful Foxton village hall.  Our aim is to help people new to patchwork, quilting and appliqué gain a basic knowledge of these lovely crafts, though if you are a more experienced stitcher there is certainly a place for you too!  We don't mind whether you prefer to stitch by hand or with a machine, both methods are welcomed here.

Want to have a go at patchwork and quilting?  Don't know where, or how, to start?  Then come and join us at Quilty Pleasures, all are welcome whatever your skill level.  We are so lucky to have Chris Hunt and Edith Dixon on hand to help guide us through even more patchwork and quilting-related topics, along with Gill Baildon and Di Jones.  Recently we have had more ever-popular free-motion machine quilting workshops with Chris, foundation piecing workshops with Edith, we also tackled trapunto, various methods of applique, decorative finishings and bindings and much more, so come along to any Quilty Pleasures meeting to get a taste of these beautiful crafts, or you can always contact me by telephone for more information on our lovely group.

Where and when

We meet at 2pm on the second and fourth Thursday of the month in Great Bowden Village Hall.

Patchwork & Quilting (No 1)

After many a year running this wonderful group, I am stepping aside as I am relocating to pastures new.  But worry not, dear quilters, you will continue to be incredibly well served at Quilty Pleasures with workshops, demonstrations and tuition carrying on as usual with Edith and Chris, along with Gill and Di.  They are […]

Patchwork and Quilting (No 1) – February & March meetings

We are now cracking on nicely with our project, where we are concentrating on accuracy and, even though there has been some gnashing of teeth because a block isn’t quite spot-on, the results are lovely!  We will be re-visiting English paper-piecing for a couple of the blocks before we shift onto foundation piecing. We have […]

Why Quilt?

Why Quilt? Quilters are often asked: Why quilt?  It’s a legitimate question.  Historically, quilting was a utilitarian craft.  People needed to make quilts to keep warm at night and generally, resources were scarce so the small pieces of fabric from used articles were sewn together to make a larger piece of fabric to create a […]

Patchwork & Quilting (No 1) – January meeting

We had only one meeting in January as Foxton village hall was being used as a polling station on the day of our second meeting, but we have started our new project and already the work being produced is lovely!  I think there will be some absolutely stunning quilts to see later this year and […]

Patchwork & Quilting (No 1) – November & December meetings

We had a great free-motion-quilting workshop spanning both November meetings and, as ever, very ably led by Chris.  The results from everyone were so good and all were inspired to practice, practice, practice over the Christmas break!  We only had one meeting in December when we had our usual Christmas quiz, accompanied by coffee and […]

Quilty Pleasures At Duxford

At the end of October some of us at Quilty Pleasures joined forces with our friends in Quilty Secrets (O&WU3A) and had a lovely day out to the last quilt show of 2016 at Duxford.  We always look forward to the Duxford shows, its not too far to travel, its not a big show but […]

Patchwork & Quilting (No 1) – October meetings

October saw us tackle piped binding in a workshop run by Chris.  It’s an easy technique and looks so effective that some of us are going to use it when finishing off our next quilt!  Chris will run another piped binding workshop next year for anyone who missed this one.  Another feature this month was […]

Patchwork & Quilting (No 1) – September meetings

We had a relatively quiet month in September, just getting on with our own projects and sorting out our lovely offerings for our stand at the Open Morning next month.  We did have a welcome visit from our patchwork and quilting friend Jenny, who brought along lots of fabrics to sell after retiring earlier this year. […]

Patchwork & Quilting (No 1) – August meetings & NEC

In August we were smack bang in the middle of the holiday season, so those of us who were around to come along to our meetings just busied ourselves with our own projects.  There was one highlight in August however, and that was the International Festival of Quilts at the NEC.  Some of us went […]

Aylestone Quilters Exhibition

Edith and I went along to Aylestone Quilters Exhibition as we both had a number of items of our work on display there.  It was a lovely show, with plenty of quilts to see, a raffle, tombola and guess the parrot’s name and, for those needing refreshment, lovely bacon sarnies, delicious homemade cakes and much […]
