Belleplates (handbells)

A small, friendly group learning to play the belleplates, a lighter and smaller form of handbells  that produce a lovely sound.

For a number of years now we’ve been lucky enough to have Tony take up the baton on alternate Wednesdays. Under his guidance we have extended both our musical knowledge and our repertoire to include classical, folk, pop, and hymn music, while maintaining a sense of fun

Where and when

We meet at Harborough Community Church every Wed except 3rd of month.

Other information

A great way to exercise the mind, improve hand/eye coordination, keep the laughter muscles working and make some lovely music. New members welcome.

Belleplates – December 2020

We have continued to enjoy meeting every Wed via zoom, but a recent foray into singing confirmed our worst suspicions of how difficult it is to coordinate music virtually – not to mention our lack of singing prowess – apologies to Angela who is our shining light – so playing belles is definitely on hold […]

Belleplates – June 2020

No long distance or virtual ringing for us during lockdown but members have been on a steep learning curve to improve their techie skills and are now having regular chats via zoom. Not always totally straight forward but an interesting exercise and lots of fun. As soon as we are safely able, we plan to […]

Belleplates – November

We recently celebrated Marj’s  90th Birthday with a cake and bubbly. Her sense of fun and commitment to playing the belles ( bottom A and G have her name written on them,)  is an inspiration to us all. Our newest pieces include:- ‘Yellow Bird’,  ‘David of The White Rock’ and ‘Lord of all Hopefulness’.

We meet weekly on Wednesdays at 2pm at St Nicholas Church, Little Bowden, Market Harborough. We are now on our Christmas break and will start again on 11th January.  Pam Duffin.

We are now on our summer break.  We start again on 7th September and will then meet weekly at 2pm at St. Nicholas Church, Little Bowden, Market Harborough.  Barbara, to whom the bells belonged has given them to SLU3A for the current group to use.  We had a lovely afternoon tea at Totties Teashop in […]
