Cycling – Dec 2021

Cycling We enjoyed two new rides in November, the 1St Friday’s 15 mile ride started at Weston and included an off road track around the West of Desborough, then a section of Desborough airfield where we stopped for a photo. The longer 3rd Friday route started at Welford, through Stanford on Avon and took us […]

Birding Thursday November Report

A group first! Not particularly exciting but I’m pretty sure we’ve never seen a Raven before on any of our outings. This one was making a racket whilst sat on top of a pylon as we made our way around Daventry Country Park. Nothing else of note to report on really, the usual wildfowl and […]

Wine tasting – October Report

We are starting to wrap up the programme of wines from up-and-coming areas, originally for 2020 but spread over 2020-21.  This time, Pat brought us three red wines from Eastern Europe.  We started in Romania with Incanta Pinot Noir 2020 12.5% £6.49 (Majestic Mix 6 price).  We enjoyed this light and fragrant wine, recognisably a […]

Tuesday walking group November report 2021

Tuesday 2nd November was a beautiful clear day, warmer than expected with good visibility. We met just after 10am in the Great Brington Church car park, some confusion as there are two car parks, but NOT in sight of one another. New members Karen and Lyndon were introduced and welcomed by the group, now a […]

Wildlife group November report 2021

The wildlife group went on a fungi foray in Wakerley Woods. We found lots of different types of fungi from the tiny Coral Spot fungus and Candle Snuff to the velvety Jew’s Ear. We admired the patterns on Stump Puffballs and saw several different types of bracket fungi, however identification became particularly challenging when we […]

Wednesday Half Day Walking – November Report

Wistow is obviously a popular place for a walk – last June there were twenty-one and this time nineteen of us (more than double the number of last month!). Led by Eddie & Edith we set off at a leisurely pace. The route went past the church to the canal, along the canal to Crane’s […]

Railway Exploration – November 2021

In view of the still uncertain situation about Covid , and the fact that the booster jab has not yet been received by everyone,  it has been decided to postpone the November meeting until January. (We do not, as a matter of course, meet in December.)  We have a full programme planned for next year and […]

Ukulele Group – November 2021

Getting back into the swing of things, but we are experiencing some irregular attendances resulting from health, holidays, grandchildren and other issues. We are working our way through an ‘alphabet’ of songs and have now got up to song titles beginning with the letter H, an approach which means we are playing songs from […]

Drawing and Painting – November 2021

We held our first face to face meeting on October 21st. However, several members contacted me to say that they did not feel confident enough to take part, given the high COVID rates in the area and the fact they had not yet received the booster vaccination. The meeting attracted only five people. Consequently, we […]
