The next meeting of the 60s Music Group is on the 19th of February at the Oathill Pub commencing at 7pm. All Welcome. Alec Hodgson.
Post-Christmas bills, winter weather, world politics, dry January (?); 2017 has brought plenty of things to raise blood pressure but here are some instant fixes. Turn up the heating to widen your blood vessels; rhythmic sighing once a minute helps to lower BP; even a fake smile reduces heart rate when you feel tense. But […]
Some lovely Californian reds brought some welcome warmth to our January meeting. Mick chose two Merlots and two Zinfandels from the Wine Society’s list, and all were well received. Zinfandel (Primitivo in Italy) produces some lovely red wines which are not always appreciated in this country, and the Shenandoah (£10.50) from Amador county was given […]
We will enjoy our ‘Special Places’ in January, and we look forward to each choosing one of our favourite poets in February. We meet at 10am in the Bowden Room on the first Friday of the month. Our group is currently full but you would be made most welcome by the Tuesday group. Jill Hart.
The Transport group meets at Little Bowden Bowling Club, Kettering Road, Market Harborough, on the first Wednesday of the month from 10am until noon. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 1st February, when Bruce White will be showing another episode of ‘Railway Roundabouts’. New members are always welcome. Michael Milsom.

The quiz will take place on Wednesday, 25th January, in the Langton Room at 2.00pm and new members are always welcome. […]

On Friday, 10th February 2017, our stroll will be from The Black Horse, Main Street, Foxton (at the top of the hill, near the church). Meet in the car […]
We ended our year of meetings with our usual food and wine evening, at which we tasted nine different wines from the area around the north Mediterranean coast. These ranged from a near-black Pinot Noir to a pale rose from Provence. Once again members brought a delicious selection of food including the largest and meatiest […]

The German language is notorious for its lengthy constructions, but the Austrian word of the year for 2016 really goes the distance. At a magnificent fifty-one characters it is Bundesprasidentenstichwahlwiederholungsverschiebung. Try pronouncing that! It means ‘postponement of the repeat of the runoff of the presidential election’, marking the seven month period it took to elect […]
