Do you remember the excellent talk we had at a monthly meeting early in 2019 from the local representative for Mercy Ships? Well, several of the Crafting for Charities members started knitting and sewing and just before
Christmas sent off a box of teddies, to be distributed to children using the hospital facilities. We had a second letter of thanks today from their Donor Services in Stevenage which shows how much these simple toys mean to the children.
“Many thanks for sending us knitted teddies for the patients on the Africa Mercy, they are just wonderful.
“The children who come to Mercy Ships often have nothing; they are frightened and overwhelmed by the environment on board our huge floating hospital ship. We give a precious teddy to every child – it’s a small gesture that truly means the world. It’s a joyous occasion for our volunteer nurses to find them when they get to the ship and start stringing them up around the Admissions Tent, ready to be chosen by a tiny afraid child about to have free surgery. These simple teddies have such value and are loved by every child that sees them.”
Thank you so much for your support. Please keep in touch with our news at www.mercyships.org.uk.
