This month the existing group tasted four red wines from Northern Italy – a Valpolicella Ripasso from Veneto in the Northeast, and three from Piedmont in the Northwest. Historically Piedmont has produced the most expensive and sought-after red wines of Italy and after the group overwhelmingly preferred instead the Valpolicella, the least expensive wine of the evening, could it be that the winemakers of Piedmont have lost their touch? We’re looking to set up a new group for Wine Appreciation. Some people are already interested – would you like to join them? This is an opportunity to explore four wines in an evening, to taste how the location, or grape variety, or wine making method can affect the wine.
