Walking (All Day) – Short break

For thirteen years Peter and Janet Element have organised this annual event in June.  Last year they announced that that was to be their last.  Having been on all the breaks since their inception we volunteered to do this years as a one-off.  Sadly, after thirteen years of annual planning, checking walks, pubs, meals et al, they were unable to attend this year and were greatly missed by all the regulars.
For the twenty members who came this year we slightly remodelled the arrangements so that we were all based at one venue, the Stourport Manor Hotel in Stourport on Severn on a three night db&b basis.  The two half-day and one all-day format was retained.  In all, we walked about twenty miles over the three days, taking in parts of the Wyre Forest and the Severn Valley around Bewdley and Upper Arley.  The views from the summits of each walk were truly spectacular, with distant views on each walk of the Malvern, Clee and/or Clent Hills.  Thankfully this year, despite walking along the banks of the River Severn and alongside Dowles Brook for a few miles, nobody fell in!  We were never out of earshot of the toots and whistles from the Severn Valley Railway so it was rather appropriate that, as we emerged from under the Victoria Bridge that carries the railway over the River Severn near Arley, a steam train drifted over the bridge on its way to Bridgnorth accompanied by much waving from us and those on board!  Our thanks to you all for the many kind words and especially, of course, for our vouchers which one day soon, we hope, we’ll be able to enjoy!
