The Railway Exploration group meets at 1030am on the third Wednesday of the month at the Bowling Club on Kettering Road. At our last meeting, guest speaker Elaine Scarlett provided us with a social, historical and family perspective on the 1892 fatal railway accident at Melton Mowbray. Our March 15th meeting will look at life in a railway cottage and the principal industry supporting the now-closed Northampton line. We will also have the opportunity to examine and discuss an 1830s coaching map depicting the heyday of local routes and facilities prior to their demise, caused by the coming of the railway. As usual, we will have coffee and a general get-together before the meeting proper. New members are always welcome – come along for a taster session if you are interested. Phil Danks.
