October saw us tackle piped binding in a workshop run by Chris. It’s an easy technique and looks so effective that some of us are going to use it when finishing off our next quilt! Chris will run another piped binding workshop next year for anyone who missed this one. Another feature this month was the SLU3A annual Open Morning where we had a stand. Lots of our group members had fabulous work to show and our display brought many admiring comments from those people who stopped to look and chat with us (see the photos below). Our backdrop quilt this year was one the whole group had made: each of us had to sew and quilt a block from a stash of random, left-over fabric, then I put all the blocks together to make a lovely, true patchwork quilt which we will now donate to a charity or care home.
At the end of October we will be having our final outing to this year’s quilt shows when we will be visiting Duxford, to stock up on all the things we will need (and plenty of things we don’t need!) to see us through the coming winter. We are all fond of our Duxford trips, and are looking forward to this one.
Next month we will be running two more free-motion quilting workshops, again run by Chris, our great free-motion quilter! Lesley Sinclair.
