Music Appreciation (Tuesday) – September meeting

In September Peter presented the programme of music which was dedicated to Dick Myrton, who hosted the group meetings with Sue back in 2000.  Dick attended the group over the last sixteen years and we will miss his genial presence.  It was lovely to have Sue with us just a few days after Dick’s funeral.

We started the morning with the ‘Concerto in A minor for Treble Recorder, Violin, Cello and Harpsichord’ by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741).  Dick played the recorder with a local group and introduced us to recorder music on several occasions.  This was followed by the ‘Clarinet Concerto No.1 in F minor’ by Carl von Weber (1786-1826).  Dick loved the clarinet and as a young man played clarinet in a jazz band in Wellingborough called the Blue Cats Jazz Band.  The woodwind really ruled in our third piece by Mozart (1756-1791) the ‘Serenade for Two Clarinets, Two Oboes, Two Bassoons and Two Horns’.  After coffee we remembered Dick as a great walker and lover of the countryside and its changing nature as we listened to the ‘Symphony No.6 in F major (Pastoral)’ by Beethoven (1770-1827).  We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 10am and our next meeting is on Tuesday, 18th October, when Peter will present the programme of music.  Peter Ellement.
