Music Appreciation (Tuesday) – May

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 Holdenby Close, MH, at 10am. In April we heard a selection of music which started off with myths and legends and finished with a story of passion and unrequited love. We began with ‘Night on Bare Mountain’ composed by Modest Mussorgsky(1839-1881). This was followed by ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ from the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg(1843-1907). Next we heard ‘Also sprach Zarathustra’ by Richard Strauss(1864-1949) inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s writings and a look into the future of super beings. This is the music used in ‘2001-A Space Odyssey’. We finished with ‘Symphonie Fantastique’ by Hector Berlioz(1803-1869) subtitled – an episode in the life of an artist. We have two vacancies in the group so if you would like to join us please give me a call. Please note that the next meeting is on Tuesday 19 June. NO MEETING IN MAY
