Music Appreciation (Tuesday) – March

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 Holdenby Close, MH, at 10am. In February we heard a selection of music composed in the 19th and 20th centuries. We began with the ‘Symphony No. 5 in in D minor’ by Dmitry Shostakovich(1906-1976) first performed in November 1937. After coffee we listened to two works  by Maurice Ravel(1875-1937) – ‘Sonatine’ composed during 1903-5 and ‘Pavane pour une infant defunte’ first performed in 1899. We finished the morning listening to ‘Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus’ by Vaughan Williams(1872-1958)  first performed in 1939. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 20 March when Peter will present the music. We have two vacancies in the group so if you would like to join us please give me a call.
