Music Appreciation (Tuesday) – June meeting

At our June meeting Peter presented the programme of music.  To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare this year, we began the morning with the ‘Incidental Music to ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) and this was followed by the ‘Piano Concerto No 10 in G minor’ by Beethoven (1770-1827).  After coffee, we heard the ‘Symphony No 3 in C minor (Organ)’ by Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) and we finished by listening to a number of Shakespeare’s Sonnets, read by Margaret Howard and Bernhard Palmer, with musical interludes of music by Johnson (1540-1594) and Holborne (1545-1602).  The next meeting is on Tuesday, 19th July, when Peter will present the music.  We have a vacancy for two new members and anyone who is interested please contact me.  Peter Ellement.
