We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 10am. In January we continued with our plan to listen to all the Beethoven (1770-1827) piano sonatas when we got to the ‘Piano Sonata No.15 in D Major (Pastoral)’. This is the last of the era of the grande sonate in Beethoven’s development of the sonata form. This was followed by the ‘Piano Concerto No.2 in C Minor’ by Sergey Rachmaninov (1873-1943). After coffee we listened to two descriptive works – ‘In the Steppes of Central Asia’ by Alexander Borodin (1833-1887) and ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ by Modest Musorgsky (1839-1881). Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 21st February. Peter Ellement.
