Music Appreciation (Tuesday) – April meeting

In April Sue presented the programme of music.  We began with a piece of organ music by Louis Lefebure-Wely (1817-1869) – the ‘Offertoire in D minor’ which was a favourite of one of our longstanding members – Lionel Brown – who died in March on Good Friday.  This was followed by the ‘Third Sonata for flute and piano’ by Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941).  Next we listened to the ‘Concert Piece in D minor’ for clarinet, basset horn and orchestra by Mendelssohn (1809-1847) and finished the first part of the programme with the ‘Konzertstuck in F minor’ by Gustav Heinze (1820-1904).  After coffee we listened to ‘Symphony No.2 in D minor – Elegiac’ by Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924).  Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 17 May, when Amanda will present the music.
