Music Appreciation (Friday) – June meeting

At our June meeting we listened to a selection of music suggested by dance.  Starting with Maria von Weber’s ‘Invitation to the Dance’, we swept into a selection of waltzes from Richard Strauss’ ‘Der Rosenkavalier’.  ‘Turkey Trot’, an arrangement made in forty minutes of Vincent Youman’s ‘Tea for Two’ by Shostakovitch completed the first part of the session.  A selection of Verdi’s Ballet Music from ‘I Vespri Siciliana’ and a set of Kodoly’s Folk Dances collected from the mountains of Transylvania, followed by some dances from Respighi’s Ballet ‘La Boutique Fantastique’ completed the morning’s listening.  Our next meeting will be on the 29th July at 10am as usual.  Geoffrey Moth.
