On Tuesday, 18th October, twenty-six members of the Local History Group boarded a coach which took them for a trip to see the Charles Rennie Mackintosh House at 78 Derngate in Northampton. This is the only house (in fact it combines three Victorian town houses) in England designed by this famous architect. Outside, the house could be easily missed but, once inside, we were greeted by the staff and swiftly split into three groups. Each group had it’s own very knowledgeable guide who proceeded to show us around this very unique house. Everyone enjoyed their day but I must admit that a black and yellow hall in a very loud geometric pattern is not one that I would have chosen for my own home. It was a good day but we were all very tired by the time we returned to Market Harborough. For further information about this Group, do please contact me. Jan Tilley.
