On Tuesday, 16th May, the Local History group had the pleasure of a very interesting and informative talk from the President and Secretary of Market Harborough’s Rotary Association. We were taken back to the first meetings which were held in Chicago. At that time, membership was made up of local tradesmen and dignitaries and the name came from the fact that meetings were held monthly in various members homes – going round each one in turn. We came to understand the work of the Association, both locally and worldwide, especially with reference to the eradication of polio which, all being well, is on course to be eradicated worldwide within the next three years. An amazing achievement. I think all there on Tuesday afternoon went away knowing much more about the Rotary and its charity works. For further information about the Local History group, do please contact me. Also, it is with great delight that I can announce that, upon my retirement at the end of this year, the group will, in future, be organised by Ian Webb and Avril Pell. Jan Tilley.
