German

Spring has sprung!  Here are some seasonal German idioms:
Schnee von gestern (yesterday’s snow) = water under the bridge.  Zwischen baum und borke (between tree and bark) = between a rock and a hard place.  Sich in nesseln sitzen (to sit in nettles) = to get into hot water.  Wie kraut und ruben (like herbs and turnips) = higgledy-piggledy.  Durch die blumen (through the flowers) = in a roundabout way.  Happy gardening (Gute gartenarbeit)!  Sylvia Mountford.
