German

It’s that time of year again – parties, dinners, drinks, perhaps a few pretzels.  Originating with German monks, their distinctive knots are a symbol of a monk’s arms crossed in prayer.  At an archaeological dig in Regensburg a pretzel was found which had been baked when George III was on the English throne.  That one might not be the tastiest nibble but, however you celebrate, have a happy Christmas.  Frohe Weihnachten!  Sylvia Mountford.
