Family History – January meeting

The South Leicester U3A Family History Group was treated to a very interesting presentation on 19th January by the Rev James Shakespeare (pictured below), vicar of Great Bowden, on his links to his ancestor the playwright William Shakespeare.  He showed us his family tree, researched and drawn up by the College of Heralds, showing the Shakespeare Pedigree going back to William Shakespeare’s grandfather, who is the Rev James’s grandfather 13 times removed.  He also showed us a rather grand parchment scroll with coat of arms and with seals attached issued by the College of Heralds and presented to his own grandfather in 1949.
On February 16th our speaker is Stephen Dyer, the U3A’s National Subject Adviser for Genealogy.  Shaun Coles.
