Our March revision board is titled Bidding to the Fit.
As we saw last month overcalling is very different from opening and so partner’s suit overcall requires a different response to an opening bid. When responding to an opening bid you and partner will try to describe the shape and strength of your hands to each other by a series of bids. However overcalling requires a much shorter exchange of information. When partner has overcalled a suit there are only two things you should do, pass or support partner’s suit. If supporting partner’s suit (with 3 or more cards) you should aim to only bid once and this month’s board describes how to judge the level at which to make that bid.
