Bird Watching (Thursday) – March meeting

Our visit to Daventry Country Park coincided with a return to winter after the previous day of spring sunshine and warmth.  To prove that spring was sort of around we saw our first chiffchaff of the year.  In the same vein goldeneye and goosander on the reservoir made you realise winter was not yet finished with us!  Amongst the gulls, coots and mallards a pair of great crested grebes gave us one of their shaking head displays; so they obviously thought spring was here!  The woods produced some good views of goldcrest, nuthatch, treecreeper and bullfinch amongst the usual tit and chat offerings.
April’s outing (20th) will be to Melton Country Park as we’ll be en route to Yorkshire!  Bruce White.
