June’s visit to Summer Leys was as notable for the butterflies as the birds! Highlights of the butterflies were speckled wood, ringlet and Essex skipper whilst on the bird front, a large variety but nothing out of the ordinary. Most of the warblers were seen but the cetti’s warbler as usual remained hidden. Wildfowl was typical for this time of year; waders other than lapwing were some redshank and oystercatcher. Linnets were active on the Scrape and bullfinches galore were at the feeding station – at one time we counted six males alone! Bruce White.
