Architecture – August

We meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2.00pm in the Lounge at the Congregational Church.    Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 28 August when Colin will talk to us about some of the recent RIBA Architectural Design Awards for New Buildings in 2017/18. We will then vote on our own favourites.

We had a most enjoyable and interesting afternoon in July when five of our members gave a short talk on a favourite building. Michael talked about the wonderful sculptures to the memory of past Dukes and Duchesses of Montagu in the church of St Edmund, Warkton, just half a mile east of Kettering off the A4300. Sean entertained us with his experiences(and problems) of designing and  building your own house(in Norfolk). Tony described the wonderful second hand bookshop, Barter Books, housed within the Victorian Alnwick railway station. Dudley talked about the Art Deco Midland Hotel which stands on the seafront at Morecambe allowing guests superb views of the North West coast. Peter talked about The Piece Hall in Halifax which is just celebrating the first anniversary after a multi-million pound redevelopment.

New members are always very welcome.  Please contact me if you are interested in joining the Group.
