Grey Wagtail

March outing report

That we didn’t encounter any rain on our visit to Thornton Reservoir, bearing in mind that it rained all the way there and was forecast to rain all morning, was a wonder in itself . This was more than can be said for the birds!! The best of a meagre bunch were a grey wagtail […]

Listening to Jazz – March

New Talent and Jazz Record companies delight in telling us about their new rising stars, be in the pop and rock fields, classical music and even jazz. But it is not often that we have a chance to hear some really new talents live before their names are being nationally promoted. Such an opportunity arose […]

Network Quiz

SLU3A at the Network Quiz

Bob’s Harborians successfully represented SLU3A at the Leicestershire & Rutland Network Quiz in March. Franz Schubert

Music Appreciation (Friday) – March

At our February Meeting the Group listened to an Orchestrated version of five of Schubert’s Lieder-not appreciated by some of the purists in the Group who preferred the original versions for voice and piano. The first half our programme ended with Schubert’s 8th, or Unfinished Symphony in a recording made in 1978 by the Vienna […]

Wine tasting – March

This month the existing group tasted four red wines from Northern Italy – a Valpolicella Ripasso from Veneto in the Northeast, and three from Piedmont in the Northwest.  Historically Piedmont has produced the most expensive and sought-after red wines of Italy and after the group overwhelmingly preferred instead the Valpolicella, the least expensive wine of […]
